First of all, thanks for your plugin.
It works well but it doesnt refresh the list of articles in the moment, its necesary to wait till its ok again.
Do you have the same problem? If you had it how did you fixed it?

Erm, actually this isn’t what your title implies. If there are plugins needed, why say “by hand”… the words you used starting this post clearly stated that you were not going to rely on plugins but do it yourself, because it’s “more fun” etc.

Hmmm, I can not see your “examples” produce a site map page without the need of plugins. So, from a themer’s point of view I will have to give you one thumb down! (from an seo point of view, you would get 1 thumb up)

@Aaron: Please re-read the feature list of the plugin.

@Bas: switch to code view for editing the tags. I am still fighting to understand regular expressions which would allow to implement the code more easily.
